Background of the Study
International organizations have increasingly played a pivotal role in advancing gender-inclusive politics across the world, often through advocacy, funding, and technical support to local governments and political entities (Aliyu & Chuka, 2023). In Sokoto North Local Government Area, Sokoto State, the influence of international organizations in promoting gender equality in politics is becoming more pronounced. These organizations focus on creating awareness, providing training, and supporting policy reforms that aim to increase women’s participation in political processes and leadership roles (Sadiq & Zainab, 2024). Despite the significant challenges posed by traditional gender norms and political structures, international organizations have been working with local stakeholders to break down barriers to women’s political engagement (Yusuf & Hajiya, 2025). The support from these organizations is crucial in fostering gender-inclusive politics and encouraging local women to pursue political careers. This study evaluates the impact of international organizations in fostering gender-inclusive political environments in Sokoto North, with a particular focus on their programs and initiatives.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Women in Sokoto North Local Government Area continue to face numerous barriers to political participation, including entrenched gender stereotypes, cultural resistance, and insufficient political support (Musa & Ahmed, 2023). Despite efforts by international organizations, the level of women’s involvement in politics remains low, as local political systems are often not conducive to gender inclusivity (Nuhu & Hamza, 2024). This study seeks to investigate the effectiveness of international organizations’ interventions in promoting gender-inclusive politics, examining both successes and limitations of their strategies in Sokoto North.

  • What programs and initiatives have been most effective in increasing women’s political participation in Sokoto North?

  • What are the challenges limiting the success of international organizations in fostering gender inclusivity in Sokoto North?

1.5 Research Hypothesis

  • International organizations have a significant positive impact on promoting gender-inclusive politics in Sokoto North.

  • Programs and interventions by international organizations increase women’s political participation in Sokoto North.

  • Cultural and institutional barriers hinder the full effectiveness of international organizations’ efforts to promote gender-inclusive politics.

1.6 Significance of the Study
The findings of this study will help policymakers, international organizations, and gender equality advocates understand the impact of international interventions on gender-inclusive politics. The research will provide insights into how international organizations can tailor their strategies to address the unique challenges in Sokoto North, fostering greater political inclusivity and equality for women.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the impact of international organizations in promoting gender-inclusive politics in Sokoto North Local Government Area. The limitations of the study include potential challenges in accessing detailed program data from international organizations operating in the region and resistance from local political structures that may not be receptive to gender-inclusive initiatives.
